How do you find the fit of your footwear?: Runs big

Not tried on yet

This is a Christmas gift for my son. My rating is based on looking at the boots still in the box because they won't be tried on until dec 25. The boots look awesome , very well made and the brunette color is beautiful . I am hoping that if they don't fit that they can still be exchanged even though I bought them in November.
